Can I donate or bank cord blood and delay cord clamping?

This is a sticky issue, as most articles on the process come from for-profit banking companies that have a vested interest in making money from early clamping for donation.

For example, this article both claims that there is little blood transfer after the first minute AND that clamping at one minute increases the amount of cord blood for collection seven fold.

My personal philosophy on banking is that it is not worth it unless there is an immediate and pressing need in your family. Otherwise the blood does more good going to the baby who made it.
