Postpartum Snack Basket

With so much to juggle in the care of a new baby, and partners often going back to work earlier because they don’t have leave, sometimes new parents find it hard to keep themselves fed. There’s simply no time to cook or prepare!

When I had my youngest, a friend brought me a basket of individually portioned foods that were – for the most part – heathy-ish. There were a few treats mixed in, too, for those moments when I needed a real pick me up. I loved it. I felt cared for every time I ate one of those snacks, and when it ran out over a week later, I had my husband refill the basket a few times.

Now I will sometimes put together a similar basket as a gift for family or friends when they have a baby. I include a refillable water bottle and a variety of things, depending on the dietary needs and restrictions of the person I am putting it together for:

  • Small packets of nuts
  • Individual servings of trail mix
  • Granola Bars
  • Breakfast Bars
  • Protein Bars
  • Dried Fruit
  • Individual sizes of popcorn
  • Chocolate
  • Cookies
  • Small boxes of almond milk

Pretty much anything that is healthy-ish or a treat, comes in individual or resealable packages, and won’t go bad at room temperature will work for this basket. You can certainly put something together like this for yourself, but you could also share this link with someone who will be attending your baby shower as a hint!
