Interesting that this article chose to feature the home birth dads, not the women who actually birthed, but it’s interesting. My husband says my superpower is knowing which celebrities had home births. I may not have a clue about WHY they are celebrities, but I hear names and I remember that they home birthed.

Well, I agree with four out of the five of these Things Women Should Know About Birth. I disagree that women should not write birth plans! As I’ve written before, I believe a birth plan of action is a very important part of being an active participant in your care.
Amy Gilliland has written an excellent article on The Essential Oil Dilemma – I am very much on the side of the “Be present and supportive” doula role. I am not a doula who will try to influence or manipulate mom’s labor. That’s what care providers are for, and mom does not need any more people telling her how to “fix” things!

This article was written before the most recent royal birth, but the topic is far more applicable. I was reminded of this when I read about the official announcement of the birth, which was written very passively.
In all the hoopla surrounding the royal birth this week, it’s nice to see the midwives who attended the birth of the newest princess get a little positive press as well. Just remember that they did not “deliver” the baby. Kate did!

Thank you for sharing my post. I think you may have misunderstood my point about birth plans. I agree with you about birth plans and their importance. What I think can be unhelpful about birth plans is people thinking about them as though they are Plans. They are hopes. They are wishes. And just as important as writing the birth plan is making sure someone is at your birth who is trained to help women work towards those.
I don’t misunderstand you at all, I simply disagree. I feel that they are plans, and should be acted on for the best chances. You can wish for things all you want, I’ll plan for them and do what I can to make them happen.
