I was saddened to hear this week that a pioneer in the childbirth movement, anthropologist and childbirth educator Sheila Kitzinger, passed away at the age of 86. Judith Lothian has written a lovely tribute to Sheila and her life’s work over on Science and Sensibility.
Talk Birth has compiled a list of her favorite quotes from Sheila Kitzinger as well.

A poem about this occasion: Why Cesarean Awareness Month? Because…
No doubt that some cesareans are absolutely necessary and life saving, but the cesarean rate could be greatly reduced if women were not pushed to birth by cesarean in subsequent healthy pregnancies. Today’s video is Sheila Kitzinger telling her own birth story. I had always hoped to someday hear her at a conference, but that never happened.
