Wednesday Wrap Up April 15

Wednesday Wrap-Up Graphic - Salt Lake City birth doulaI was saddened to hear this week that a pioneer in the childbirth movement, anthropologist and childbirth educator Sheila Kitzinger, passed away at the age of 86. Judith Lothian has written a lovely tribute to Sheila and her life’s work over on Science and Sensibility.

Talk Birth has compiled a list of her favorite quotes from Sheila Kitzinger as well.

April is cesarean awareness month, so there are lots of good blog posts out there on the topic that I’d like to link to:

First is this one that I can really identify with. I’ve seen lots of bravery, love, and beauty in most of the cesarean births I’ve attended. Three Truths About C-Section Mamas

A poem about this occasion: Why Cesarean Awareness Month? Because…

No doubt that some cesareans are absolutely necessary and life saving, but the cesarean rate could be greatly reduced if women were not pushed to birth by cesarean in subsequent healthy pregnancies. Repeat cesarean births have serious health consequences, too! And really, it is Too Bad we can’t just “ban” Accreta”

Today’s video is Sheila Kitzinger telling her own birth story. I had always hoped to someday hear her at a conference, but that never happened.
